Rare Antique Pine Marriage Chest with Folk Painting
Ref: 4709
An antique pine chest made for a marriage towards the end of 19th century and painted in the tribal colours of the group of Hungarian Central Transylvanian villages where it originated . Called “Cifre” or tulip painting it’s all symbolic, examples can be seen and are celebrated in the Ethnographic Museum in Budapest. Boxes can be found as far as chests are concerned these are even more rare and this the best one I’ve seen. Fully functioning. Painted on top and both sides.
Very good condition. A piece to treasure.
