Joyful Antique Folk Painted Marriage Chest
Ref: 4478
This type of painted furniture was only made in one particular group of villages in what is now present day Romania and in a period from the mid-19th century until the mid-20th. It’s unusual to find chests, more often one sees boxes, and less often benches. This chest is dated to 1952 when it would have made and painted by a specialist team of local craftsmen. The furniture suite would have been an important element of the marriage ceremony and the pieces would adorn the clean room, and were rarely used. This piece is nicely aged, the colours faded by time, with a light crackle, but otherwise very sound and usable condition.
