Antique Gibson Chair in Original Paint
Ref: 4553
A primitive country chair or hedge chair from Ireland. Being dry scraped to traces of it’s original paint gives it a dramatic decorative look.
These chairs are commonly referred to as “Gibson” chairs owing to the characteristic W or M shape of the back spindles.
This is a classic example having the broad and thick D shaped seat. According to Claudia Kinmonth, Gibson chairs are usually made of ash, elm and sycamore and you can see this here, the buttery golden sycamore nicely polished on the arm rests.
