A Good Irish Gibson Chair in Old Paint
Ref: 1185
An antique windsor style or stick arm chair from Ireland commonly known as a Gibson chair owing to the unusual slanted stick supports on the back rest. The arms and back rest are, as typically sycamore, with an ash seat and legs. This is a good example as it is wide and inviting and just high enough in the seat to use, albeit with the sloping back rest a kind of sitting back doing the Irish Times crossword or reading a bit of Yeats type of chair rather than a dining one. In as found old paint finish, therefore a kind of original condition if not what we normally call original paint.
Sometimes also called famine chair, hedge chair or primitive windsor.
