Small Shepherd’s Coffer with Criss-Cross Design
Ref: 6428
A nice example of a traditional beechwood shepherd’s coffer, small, very good condition, and with unusual design including net, grid & criss-cross motifs, these designs are of ancient provenance & connected to traditions of the evil eye and belief in witchcraft, the interplay of surface and depth, the push & pull & liveliness of the design keeps the eye at play, and was meant to deter spirits of malcontent.
