Small Carved Shepherd’s Coffer In Original Paint
Ref: 4907
A traditional small carved shepherd’s coffer or box, this box may have been at the end of a bed in a very rustic remote peasant dwelling, containing personal items and keepsakes, made of beech and with unusual blue & white decoration, the geometric carving is rich in symbols all of which had meaning, & all of which were intended to promote good fortune & deter malign influences & the ever present fear of being possessed by either illness or bad luck.
