Shepherd’s Chest with Archaic Scroll Carving
Ref: 4601
A traditional antique shepherd’s coffer or chest from the mountains in original green paint to sides and front. The construction is traditional being slatted and pegged, made from hewn planks, a furniture historian would class it as medieval - in remote parts of Europe traditions lingered.
The scroll carved geometric decoration to the front is also traditional and indeed magical, the purpose originally being to promote luck and good fortune and preserve through these evil eyes devices and pinwheels and other symbolic codes the precious contents of the trunk from possession by evil influences.
