Remarkable English Pine Work Box with Military Badges
Ref: 2459
A terrific piece of English folk art, an early 19th century painted pine trunk or box with compartments for tools. The central tray lifts up to open the main space of the box. Thus far a fairly ordinary piece but look at the top of the box and it is remarkable being neatly decorated all over with mostly military cap badges.
There is a brass name plate, Hemming, and in the centre an individual's Metropolitan Police badge, giving clues to the owner and artist. There are badges here from all over...New Zealand, Canada, Royal Leinster, the Cameron Highlanders..and many more in fact over 100. Probably the value of this piece in the badges alone surpasses the ticket price.
Found in France.
