Primitive Hewn Shepherd’s Coffer with Traditional Carving
Ref: 4959
An early primitive coffer made of hewn timbers, slotted and pegged in pre-modern fashion, and carved with geometric symbols, associated with the peasant and shepherd culture of the remote highlands. The wood has achieved through time a wonderful bleached quality so as to appear almost like stone.
Often seen with compass circle evil eye devices this one has a mesh or net design to the front, but the purpose is the same, to entrap or entangle malign influence, these boxes would hold personal clothing and items.
