Folk Painted Marriage Chest in the Cifra Style

This style of folk painting is called ‘cifra’ in Hungarian and means ‘fancy’ or ‘highly decorated’ it’s really a folk painted version of the elaborate embroideries found on traditional Magyar folk costume. This piece would have formed part of a marriage suite and be part of the dowry of the bride.
The top is nicely worn where the box was used as a seat.
The front well preserved. The sides white, it has handles and is very clean to interior.
