Ref:  7272

A delightful folk art painted pine marriage chest with flowers and butterfly on warm wood brown ground colour, it is inscribed to 'Cica' this is an affectionate abbreviation of the Romanian name Lucica (anglicised Lucinda). The proximity of the word to the depiction of a butterfly or moth suggests the idea of metamorphosis, the idea of the young lady whose dowry this box contains experiencing change as she crosses over into adult life and matrimony. Very good clean condition.
