Elm and Chesnut Painted Arc or Hewn Chest

Antique elm or chesnut lidded trunk or box, possibly a dowry chest from Spain. Early construction, made of hewn planks pegged into stile legs, this type of furniture is found in mountaineous areas throughout Europe for hundreds of years but this quite sophisticated with panelled front and "Baroque" detailing. Original paint or stain.
