Delightful Folk Painted Marriage Box

A pine marriage box in the fancy or decorated style typical of the Hungarian Calvanist country folk of the Kaloteszeg, West of Kolosvar, in Transylvania, from the end of the 19th century they were celebrated for their joyful folk arts, painting, music, dance and textiles, and their traditions carried on well into the 20th cent.
This box would have formed part of a suite especially made and painted by professional artists for a marriage.
Clean to interior.
