Antique Shepherd’s Sarcophagus Chest
Ref: 5199
A lovely example of an arc or shepherd’s marriage of a type typical of the mountain ranges bordering Hungary and Croatia in the south, it is in superb condition, made of beech with pine, and painted and carved in the customary fashion and ‘hot’ colouring. These types of chests found throughout the shepherd cultures in Europe are often referred to as sarcophagus chests, they are an ancient form of furniture, that takes it from stone sarcophagii and you can clearly see this here.
