Superb Red and Flower Painted Marriage Box Bench
Ref: 3096
A superb 19th century box bench made of pine and hardwood and in excellent condition, decorated for a Hutsul marriage, these were a tribe who inhabited the mountains of what was Poland but is now South Western Ukraine. The Hutsul were said to be descended from nobility who had fled to the hills in an earlier era of warfare hence the high quality of their folk art, textiles, woodwork and painted furniture. This is really a museum piece.
