A superb example of a folk art painted marriage bench from Central Transylvania, the embroidery-inspired red on white painting is vibrant but nicely weathered in time. Such pieces were commissioned at great expense to be showpieces of the marriage dowry. You can see this not only in the skilled and detailed painting but in the overall craftsmanship of the piece which includes fielded panels, open fretwork panels, an elegant curving form and a seat which lifts to storage. Very clean and solid.
