Great look to this early & primitive form high-back English tavern or farmhouse settle, it’s untouched condition and retains it’s original scumble paint that has a nicely aged and bleached out appearance.

Made of elm and with thick one piece seat, the settle curves gently not severely making it easy to accommodate in kitchen, hall or living room - such settles were made to be placed near or in front of the hearth, the curve and the characteristic high back which fits flush to the floor enclosed the heat and protected the sitter from drafts.
