Antique Folk Painted Saxon Marriage Settle

Lovely age and patina to this marriage bench, it is a box settle and was also originally made as a schlaf banke or bed bench (the front pulls out), the style of the bench is early reflecting unchanged medieval traditions this and the folk painted decoration to the front and back rest are typically “Saxon” this means it was a bench made by the German inhabitants of Transylvania or Siebenbergen (the Seven Towns) as they called it. The seat is 47cm high. A beautiful piece.
