18th Cent Hand Coloured Map of Derbyshire
Ref: 5875
A decorative copper plate engraved and hand coloured map of Derbyshire, dating to around 1760 & first published for the London Magazine, it is in old frame, ready to hang. You can tell it’s an 18th century map as it names “Peak Cavern” as the “Devil’s Arse of the Peaks”, this was the old name local people used owing to the flatulent sounds the cave emitted, it was re-named of course in the Victorian period when the tourist industry had developed.
