Painted and Sponge ware Plate with Swallows
Ref: 1607
Another tradition in Central Europe is painted and sometimes sponge decorated china plates. Often the subject matter is religious, sometimes nationalist or commemorative, cockrels and hens are common and rarely swallows feeding a symbol of good luck. Oftentimes i have visited houses in the old Austrian Empire and seen collections adorning the walls in the kitchen and living rooms.
