Large Earthenware Pot with Geometric Green Glazing
Ref: 2936
An interesting larger size cooking or food storage pot from peasant village probably 19th or early 20th century - pale coloured with geometric green glazed decoration that is typically Romanian. Whilst the Austrian, German and Hungarian village pottery in Transylvania with its glazed flowers evoked the Dutch Baroque; the Romanian geometric designs seem distinctly archaic and may well represent a continuous tradition of geometric and symbolic decoration that goes back into the misty beginnings of Europe's cultural history.
