Folk Art “Porte Serviettes” with Blue Birds
Ref: 1640
One of those lovely small pieces of folk art that one would like to keep but one’s inner impulse to share demands that it should go for sale.
A wooden carved rail for hanging “rusznik” or towels, painted in blue and white with “Good Morning” in Romanian. Two birds and the carved cross support the general sense of optimism and well wishing.
This piece was probably symbolic as much as practical and would have been presented at a marriage to confer blessing on a new household.
Very good condition and not an everyday piece.
Can be enjoyed but also used in the kitchen or hallway.
Eastern Europe later 19th cent.
