Ref: 1273
Although with scratches and areas of wear this is a terrific little primitive landscape painting from
the nineteenth century showing High Tor and Riber Castle in Matlock.
Matlock, in Dovedale, was a tourist attraction in the Victorian period and this scene showing the high street in Lowry-like style with rowers and gaily dressed boaters may be seen as a form of popular commercial art from the period prior to the mass production of photographic images.
