Ref: 2848
A terrific and must be rare piece of English folk art, apparently a walking stick but delicate and carved and in fact it seems to have been a trade sign for a cobbler that must have been displayed at his stand or outside a shop on the street or at a fair or market.. The handle (in two parts and pegged through) forms a carved foot with boot whilst on both sides the rest of the handle is decorated with carvings representing tools and other signs of the cobbler's art. The stick is otherwise elaborately carved and it is in its original paint.
English early 19th cent.
