Chest of Drawers »
Geometric English Oak Chest of Drawers
Ref: 3249
This is a very smart and oak English country made chest of drawers in the Jacobean style - it's a completely authentic piece and was recently found languishing in the barn of a house in the Forest of Dean.
The drawer construction suggests this is not early to mid 17th century but a little later probably early 18th century - one of the drawers incidentally (see illustration) has a bad modern replacement but the back of the drawer likely dating to the original construction re-uses some carved wood that seems is evidently Gothic or Elizabethan, the drawers are also very thickly timbered in oak - it's a reminder of how country furniture was traditionally made, ie. you can't always date things precisely by style and items were normally made from the materials at hand.
