Hungarian Painted Bridal Chest with Drawer
Ref: 1991
A splendid tall antique pine chest, box or coffer with original professional paint decoration made for the home of newly weds. It is actually to be precise a mule chest, meaning a box with additional drawer to the bottom. Set on legs. Quite large and tall and very clean condition.
Inscribed with the names of the betrothed, Gabriel and Orsze, an old fashioned Hungarian pet name for Elizabeth, and the date of their union, "1888". Would benefit from an antique pine wax finish and this would knock back the abrasions of the paintwork on the front.
