Folk Art Box Bench from the Valleys

A box bench from Eastern Europe, pine and later 19th or early 20th century, this type of tribal folk painting continued in remote valleys well into the 20th century prior to the progress of modernity, the railways and the onslaughts of war. This piece would have been made for a marriage and the almost aboriginal and hallucinogenic painted decoration wd have been full of symbolic meanings. Normally these benches are much longer, this one a neat size.
