Nude in Window, Cote d'Azur
Ref: 1651
There is an old friend and art teacher in Cyprus who would often catch students and admirers off guard by pointing out the merit in naive, popular and kitsch art. The naive often has the merit of being fresh, direct, uncluttered in ways that more intellectually serious attempts at art are not.
This painting is like a Matisse Nice series painting of an odalisque re-imagined by Jeff Koons and Ciccionlina. All the tropes of ′midi-post impressionism′ are here and quite freshly realised, the nude, the boats, the louvered shutters. The pink bow must have come directly out of the imagination of the artist like the proverbial cherry on the cake. Mid-20th century and in original condition, oil painted on linen canvas and signed by Flo.
Christensen. Who knows this work which has floated back out onto the market from a private house may have first been sold by a quayside gallery on the Cote d′Azur for a huge sum to a millionaire boat owner on his lunch break with his mistress?
