Bas Relief Stone Carving with Original Paint

A fine quality stone carving of a portrait head with foliage and decoration. Comes from a continuous frieze around the exterior of a merchants′ house on the silk route. The Jain were wealthy and their stone build townhouses stood out from the dwellings around them and displayed their wealth. Probably a portrait of a family member. Modern looking but 18th cent. Traces of old paint remain.
